Driving Miss Daisy Matinee Play Nov 20

November 20 @ 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM

Driving Miss Daisy was first a play starring Morgan Freeman, Dana Ivey, and Ray Gill debuting in 1987.  The movie followed 2 national tours with different actors and was released in 1989 with Jessica Tandy and Dan Akroyd joining Morgan Freeman on the big screen.  The play received a Pulitzer, the movie an Oscar for Best Movie, and Tandy for Best Actress.

Daisy Werthan, an elderly Jewish widow living in Atlanta, is determined to maintain her independence. However, when she crashes her car, her son, Boolie, arranges for her to have a chauffeur, an African-American driver named Hoke Colburn.  Daisy and Hoke‘s relationship gets off to a rocky start, but they gradually form a close friendship between the years of 1948 to 1973, one that transcends racial prejudices and social conventions.
